Crushed Tomatoes in Heavy Puree are made from mature, vine-ripened tomatoes that have been washed, sorted, peeled and chopped. A rich puree is prepared from fresh tomatoes and used as a packing medium. Salt is added for flavor. The finished product has a hearty sauce appearance characterized by small pieces of peeled tomatoes.
